One feature I enjoyed in a competing product is the ability to generate a “floating” type sample. Basically, it’s a transparent (no background color) “popup” containing the user’s selected sample text that can be overlaid over anything else on-screen. User can make the typical sample text selections (color, weight, etc.).
It’s an easy way to comp because, instead of having to jump between programs and select text in a design app, a designer can just launch floating samples from the font program (like MainType) and overlay them on the targeted design for a quick check to see if the font will look good.
Probably not quite what you want, but experiment with different layouts. The Sample Panel can be detached from the MainType Window and made to float over other applications.
Bhikkhu, thank you for this swift reply. Much appreciated!
Yes, I saw that and this does help. Of course, the original request would be more precisely what I am seeking (without having to change background colors to match destination comp, etc.).
It seems a similar feature is patented by company with a competing font manager. Maybe we can still implement a similar feature without violating the patent, but that requires more research.
