I would like to insert many characters quickly. (I have 45 consonants to insert into the Private Use Area.) Is there a way to type the basic consonants into a cell using the keyboard keys?
For example, I need to insert 2 b’s and 2 B’s. I would like to be able to go to the place where I want to insert the character, and type ‘b’ on the keyboard and have Font Creator enter the glyph from the already present ‘b’ character.
Or do I need to do this one at a time, copying the glyph form the existing ‘b’, and pasting it into the corresponding cell?
Thank you for your help.
I’m not sure that I understand the question, but maybe this will help.
Say I want two 'b’s, one with accent macron below and one with accent dot below.
- In the glyph overview select the b, the macron below and the dot below using control click.
- Copy these three glyphs to the clipboard.
- Open the first private use area glyph edit window (it must be empty) and paste the three glyphs. That will create a composite.
- Delete the one accent you don’t want, and move to the next glyph (Alter Right).
- Paste again, and delete the other accent.
- Adjust the accents for horizontal position holding down shift to maintain their vertical position.
To insert a range of characters, mapped to the private use area, use insert characters.
- Go to Unicode block, Private Use area, and double-click on the first character in the range you wish to use.
- Hold down shift, and double click on the last in the range. That will insert the numbers in the bottom field of the dialogue, e.g. 57344-57373 (you can also type, or cut and paste these numbers into the dialogue)
- Click OK to add those empty, but mapped glyphs, to your font
Or you could change the sample font on the left hand side of the edit screen

and drag in whatever glyph you wish.
Composits is another solution. You may want to make them Simple afterword.
