as i am new to all of it, i obviously have some difficulties figuring stuff out
and i was hoping someone could help me with these 2 questions.
When i import vectors that consist of seperate shapes, they tend to
import on top of eachother so they do not remain in their right composition.
i tried import image and i have also tried copying from the clipboard.
both ways give me an undesired effect.
also i have noticed that they sometimes import in a different size
even tho all symbols where made from the same template.
How do i change CapHeigt etc. ?
the two vertical lines are adjustable by hand.
Usually, all you need to do is reverse the direction of one or more contours. The Validation Toolbar (F7) may help. If you’re still stuck, zip an AI file and attach it to a forum post. The Upload attachment post is below the message reply box.
The scale options for importing vectors are in Tools, Options
Caps Height etc., are calculated values. See Font Properties, Metrics. The caps height is calculated from the highest point of the capital H, and the x-height is calculated from the highest point of the lowercase x.
i haven’t found the scale options even tho i looked in all tabs for 3 times. i must be going blind.
and i don’t even begin to understand how the font properties work, they don’t seem to be editable either.
also the importing issue, i see the button for reversing directions but it’s grayed out.
i’m beginning to thing this program is above my intellect : )
and it’s weird because i’m picking up where i left a year ago
and i don’t recall having those issues back then.
The vector scale options are on the Glyph Tab of the Options dialogue.
The “Change Direction” button will be greyed out unless a contour is selected. On the Validation toolbar the “Correct Contour Directions” button will be greyed out if none are incorrect.
The validation features are not available in the Home Edition of FontCreator.
The Caps height and x-height can be edited manually, but the calculate button will set the correct value depending on the glyph outlines of H and x, as stated above.
Programs need to be learned, or relearned if you forgot how to use them.
ok i see why the attachment didn’t make it, i must have missed the warning.
but how am i supposed to attach an AI file if the forum only supports half a megabyte.
the file was only 1 mb. not even sure why the file is that big. it only consists of 1 object.
anyway i attached a jpg of the object and how it should look.
just an example.
it seems that there are previous errors, even with selecting.
i have no idea what those could be because i didn’t get any warning.
“If you’re still stuck, zip an AI file and attach it to a forum post. The Upload attachment post is below the message reply box.”
I doubt if the font itself would help, but it might in case your results on import are different to ours. So you could include that in the same ZIP attachment. AI files generally compress very well.
The validation toolbar in your screen shot explains why the toolbar button to correct the contour direction is greyed out.
Well that is what i did the first time, but the compression went from 1,055 to 1,005 kb
so zipping didn’t compress it at all. Or is there a way to make it compress better ?

i don’t understand. i saw the the error line but that doesn’t explain anything to me.
what is the solution for this ?

To remove intersecting co-ordinate errors, move a node or two. If contours cross themselves this error will be seen, so then FontCreator doesn’t know what direction the contour is.
but if it means i will have to manually move things for
each symbol then i guess i better do things the long way
because it doesn’t seem to me that after i move the nodes
the objects will snap to their original position relative to
the other shape.
basicly the program doesn’t seem to properly support
vector import that has multple objects since it can’t
remember the orientation of seperate objects.
no worries tho, i’ll take my time and position things
as they should be manually.
The object selection in the screenshot seems to show that what should be a single closed curve has been chopped up into smaller pieces. The ‘Add’ command in FontCreator should take care of this.
