Little Red "X's"

I’m still trying to figure this software out. Maybe I’m making it harder than it needs to be, but I am still trying to get my cursive handwriting into a font I can use with a website I am making. What do the little red ‘X’s’ mean? Whenever I open a letter in contour mode, there is almost always little red ‘X’s’ on it where it isn’t filled in and when I try to fill it in, it splits and looks terrible in the testing area. I hope somebody can understand what I mean.

I’m sorry, I haven’t a clue what you mean. How are you drawing your font? The easiest way to create a script font is to draw it on paper, scan it, then import each letter into FontCreator.

Hi Carol (?), I think the red “Xs” are error areas where your contours are overlapping and crossing each other.

Grab a corner point and move it around to see if they move the red points around if you want to play with it. To get serious, find the button at the top of the screen with a ! on it. That will validate the glyph and spell out what problems (if any) the glyph has.

You may need to use the “Get Union of Contours” button if you have crossing contours.

Somewhere on this site there is a discussion on what fonts are accepted by the internet (Very few) so the easiest way to use your new font is to write your message, convert it to an image, and post the image.

I’m sure you can get it working. After all, even I figured it out.
Like you, at first I made it harder than it had to be.
