I have modified a True Type font by adding numbers and some punctuation. This was accomplished by importing images and editing them. The font was saved and registered on the PC but now will not display at all. It has been tested in Word and another program. The modified font is attached.
Also, why does the font file size get smaller when saved out of Fontcreator?
I hate these complex fonts — they render so slowly on my hardware that they are unusable.
Nevertheless, your modified font does work, so I suggest uninstalling reinstalling, and rebooting your PC.
The modified version is smaller because some unsupported tables were stripped. Check your FontCreator Options, on the Font tab to decide whether or not to strip unsupported tables on saving.
As a font accumulator, I would like you to not only add glyph changes but also modify font documentation, names, copyright, trademarks, designer, etc. to show you assumed ownership of that font. From all appearances this is a Billy Argel font with out-of-style numbers. Your changing the names hides the fact that it is not a full version of MASTERPLAN from Billy Argel but rather a change to the trial version.
I don’t think anyone should assume ownership of the font. Its clearly marked free for “Personal Use Only.” Attaching it here to get some feedback on the changes is not assuming ownership of anything. If anyone else wants to download the original from dafonts.com or wherever, and modify for their own personal use, I see no harm in that.
If you make changes to a font, it is no longer the designer’s creation, so should be noted. Correcting citations should be part of the design process. Too often such modifications are never identified when circulated.
All valid points, but dismith is not distributing the font. He/she just wants to get the font working, and hopefully only intends to use it for personal use.
In my case I got permission from Serif to redistribute my modified version of Garland, though both Serif and I stopped distributing it many years ago because there were doubts over its heritage. I see that its still being distributed by some font sites.
