Questions about free font usage, Legal issues?

Hi All,

I love carving stamps to give friends as a present or sometimes sell them when ppl are interested.
Recently I came across Dick Pape’s Weissranken Initialen font and really loved the looks of it, so I carved an “A” as my initial to stamp it on my handmade notebook for my own use. and now friends’ been asking if they could have their own initial stamps and would like to buy them.

And because the font was free to download, and I am not so familiar with the legal issues about free font online. So was wondering if i could made stamps and sell to people?

Thank you all in advance.

Those Dick Pape fonts are all free to use as you can so Go Make Some Money if you can… or just give them away.

So glad you can use it. Nice work. Dick,

Very nice work from both of you!

Hi there,

Apologies for butting in, and if I seem like a n00b for rehashing this issue, but does that also include all the ornaments, dingbats, clip art and so on?

I ask because I have much the same scenario as the OP, only I make stencils for crafts and home decor. I was looking for some nice vintage designs when I came across your fonts on Luc Devroye’s site. So many! A lot of those ornaments would make nice stencils. But like the OP, I wasn’t sure if free to download also meant free to use and sell, so I thought it’s better to ask .

Many thanks for your help.

absolutely free to use in whole or in part … in sickness or in health.

D

That is brilliant! Very generous of you.

Many thanks indeed!

You are very welcome.

Hi Dick, how about usage of the fonts made from Dover images? Are those usable in commercial work?

I would guess so. Gee, que es “commercial work”.

by commercial work, I meant using the dingbats in the design of a product for sale (magnets, greeting cards).

I realized those images are also on the CDs that Dover sells, so will just buy the CDs with the images I need.

Thanks for all the great fonts and dingbats!
