I’ve noticed since the recent update that if I manually attempt to refresh my font folders, nothing happens. Usually I’d get the notification at the bottom right of the screen as it processed new fonts, etc. But now, nothing happens… It seems the only choice I have is to stop the background process and restart it.
What do you see when you try this from within the Font Folders window in MainType?
The notification panel will only appear if the refresh takes more than a second, so if it is fast, it won’t show.
have the same problem; however, I would still expect to see the new folders, etc when I refresh. No new folders appear either.
Can you please provide steps that we can use to understand the problem?
Here is what I did to verify that the font refresh (and possibly font add) is not working.
- Note the number of files showing in the Library.
- Add a new font file to the folder
- Wait to see if automatic refresh will trigger. It does not.
- Manually click the folder refresh button at the top of the page.
- Expect message to display in lower right hand corner. It does not.
- Check the number of fonts displaying in the library to see if it has changed. It has not.
- Navigate to folder in the groups panel to see if the new font is showing there. It is not.
- Navigate to Recently Added view in the Views panel to see if new font is showing there. It is not.
- Manually refresh again to see if anything changes. It does not.
- Search for font name in search field. Font not found.
One other thing…if I install the font using the windows native install, MainType immediately acknowledges that the new font is installed and it is visible in all folders.
MainType should process all font files in the selected library, so this is clearly an issue or a misunderstanding.
Unfortunately we are not able to reproduce it, so any information that helps us locate the cause of this problem is welcome.
We have the same problem here.
Our company upgraded from version 6 to version 13 recently and since then our fonts folder don’t refresh either automatically or manually.
For example, we downloaded Roboto Condensed from Google fonts yesterday but when trying to Refresh Main Type nothing happens.
Even if I add the same main font folder again or the specific folder with Roboto, is not finding the new fonts. They only appear if I install the font manually using Windows.
“Index recursively” was ticked when adding the folder.
Another thing I have noticed is that I cannot modify any of the folders shown before.
Thanks for reporting this. We’ve identified a rare situation that can cause the folders not to refresh as you described.
While we’re working on a permanent fix, the current work-around is to restart the Font Service. That should make the new fonts show up again.

Do you mean restarting MainType? if that’s the case, no, that’s not helping either, the folders do not update.
these are the latest dates my folders were Refreshed even if I restart my computer almost every day.
No, not restarting MainType but the font service. A reboot would also be worth a try if you don’t know how to restart the font service.
