Themida

Hello,
first of all, I consider it a real bug that if Themida alerts during the installation, the installation completely hangs and users cannot close it.

Then, the Themida prevents me running the application. I do not mind whatever protection mechanisms you include in the free trial version, but as a paying customer I want a working software. I do not run any monitoring software but I am a developer and couple of Visual Studio instances are running all the time (mind you, closing them did not help either). As a developer I need to create fonts for my applications and web sites. Currently I am unable to use your software for my daily work. Please kindly let me know any suggestions on how should I proceed.

Thank you,
Jan Kučera

You may have to wait for a reply from one of the developers, but meanwhile see this earlier thread or search for others about Themida.

Hello,
thanks for reply. I have seen both of the threads regarding Themida. The thing is that I do not have any problems with AV software (and I have no doubts High-Logic software is bad-code free), and I understand their need to protect their software, especially when giving out trials. My concern was an annoyance for customers who actually bought the product. That being said, restarting the system did allow the application to run, even with the same toolset already running, including Visual Studio and other developers tools. So it actually looks a bit like a bug. Somewhere should be noted that restart is required, and/or the install application probably should not be concerned about the protection. This does bring little security anyway, as you can get the already extracted software from another computer.

There are other factors as well. Customers who bought the product before Themida was used currently do not have an option to download a version without it — the one they bought. Also, some customers might feel insulted by the claim they are trying to breach the licence terms, or, frightened that they have some unknown malware running on the computer, none of which might be the case.

From the materials I had available it looked like I will not be able to run the software together with a debugger, i.e. Visual Studio, which would be a critical limitation worth asking for money back. However as I pointed out this does not seem to be the case after restart. Anyway, I believe this experience will be useful for the High-Logic developers and help them to further improve their products and protection with respect to the paying customers.

Regards,
Jan

I’m sorry about the issues you have with our protection mechanism. I hope you have found a way to continue to use our software for now. If not, do contact me and I’ll try to find a solution.
