Uninstalling fonts from Windows/Fonts : Where do they go?

Hi,
I have a technical question on uninstalling :
When we uninstall fonts from the C:/Windows/Fonts, where does the physical font file go ?
Where does it hide ?

Recently bought MT10 to clean up a big mess, I had over 5000 fonts installed in my Windows/Fonts directory for the last 12 years.
I have 2 screens, launched MT and starting uninstalling a lot of fonts, while watching the Fonts directory decreasing on the other screen !

So I uninstalled a group of 3 Humanist777, the 3 files actually disappeared from the directory.

Then I searched in my C:/ for Humnst777 and Humanist 777 and had ZERO result. :open_mouth:
Nothing in my Trash bin either, that’s reassuring.

To make a LIVE test, I reinstalled one, it came back ! Magic !
They DO come back !

MainType saves all fonts that it finds in its vault. Make a backup of the vault using FMSConfig to ensure that you can recover from hard disk failure, etc.

Ok, thanks for the tip.
I found that vault

But the fonts are encrypted in a file,
which means that I’m stuck with MT if I want to recover some fonts that are nowhere else anymore and weights a ton ?
I mean, my WHOLE font directory weights 1.5Go (9000 fonts), my Windows/Fonts weights 900Mb with 2450 files
and the 1500-ish that I uninstalled today already weight 1Gig ?

WHY ?
That IS scary !

The vault is a database, that contains a copy of each font you add to the library. This ensures that you’ll be able to install and load your fonts, even if you no longer have a copy on disk.

Both standard and professional edition have a feature that allows you to export your fonts to your file system. Just select one or more fonts and select Export from the File menu.

OK.
thanks
