unwanted white overlay where letters overlap

Hi everyone,
for a while I`ve been trying to figure out an issue I have with one of our fonts.
With some letters the overlapping is shown as white, as seen in the example attached.

The suggested solutions I`ve found in this forum; changing the direction or optimize contours did not work.
The weird thing is, not every letter is affected.

Looking forward to ideas.
Thanks

Try running the font validation wizard. There may be intersecting contours.

Hi Bhikkhu,
thank you for the fast reply. It did find some issues but unfortunately it didn`t resolve the main one.

Can you share the font project with us?

It must be due to incorrect contour direction. Alternatively export with TrueType based outlines, which should also solve the issue!

I uploaded the font.
When I export the font I usually choose the “Outline Format - TrueType”
We use the font in our shop and its only visible after the order is output to a pdf.
Since we use multiple fonts in our shop, and this is the only one with this issue, we assume its the font.
Thanks again for the super fast replies.

The exported TTF has no issues.

It even works like a charm when exported with CFF based outlines. Also the PDF as exported by Word works just fine.

I suspect the library you use to generate the PDF is causing the problem, or you still use an older version of this font.

Thanks everyone
I guess I will forward this problem than to the IT department of the shop.
Thanks again to all

I’ve sometimes noticed this but it isn’t a problem. In the preferences on the General tab there are two ways of rendering glyphs, they are called ‘Winding’ and ‘Alternate’. If you use the ‘Winding’ then there is no problem and overlaps are handled correctly, if you choose ‘Alternate’ then overlaps come out white but it isn’t a problem as it only affects the display in Font Creator. When the font is exported it will work correctly, this setting has no effect on the final font.

Hope this helps.
