Using Modified Font

My time for the learning curve is very short, so a basic question:

I’ve needed to modify one character of HelveticaNeueLT and did so successively in the program.
Saved it and now attempting to use it in Illustrator and Word. Illustrator then crashes before
it appears, and it doesn’t appear in Word. What is the issue?

It should be:

    • open
  • modify
  • save to other place/ as other file name
  • uninstall existing version
  • install new version

You should uninstall the font, reboot your computer, and then reinstall the font. You might even have to clear some font caches.
