I created an iconfont using mostly the Unicode private use area, but for some currency symbols I used the right Unicode value including some CJK unified ideographs.
I installed the font and It works smoothly on Adobe Illustrator, and almost completely in Microsoft Word, however when I try inserting these CJK characters in as symbols they display correctly in the character map, but not in the document itself, where they become MsGothic.
I was having the same issue with two other characters, the Baht currency symbol from the Thai area, and another character from the arabic area, I went to the font settings and had it calculate both the Unicode and code page character ranges which seemed to fix the problem for these two but not the CJK characters. Also, for the arabic character it turned the other way around: the character map glyph is different but displayed correctly when inserted.
Could someone tell me why could this happen?
This looks like a problem with Word rather than the font. Are you using the latest version of Word?
I experimented with some the Emoticons and other Symbols in PagePlus and got odd results too. Because these code-points are outside the usual 16-bit range they are not supported properly. I can copy/paste them from LibreOffice, and they display, but cannot be printed, etc.
I suggest using only the Private Use Area, then the fonts will be supported by most programs.
Thank you, just assigned them all to the Private Use Area and they’re fine now.
