Outdated Unicode definition used in the left panel

Version: 15.0.3047 for macOS

Reproduction:

  1. Download BabelStoneHanExtra.ttf from Release 20250708-beta · babelstone/babelstonehan-ufo · GitHub
  2. Open this font in FC
  3. Check the left panel
  4. Expand the Unicode tree item

Expected: The expanded list should include CJK Unified Ideographs Extension J xxxx/yyyy, as the BSH Extra has supported a few thousand Extension J characters, such as U+323B0.

Actual: The expanded list only include CJK Unified Ideographs from B to I, which are defined prior to Unicode 17.0. That’s why I suspect the Unicode definition here is outdated.

As far as I know, the Babelstone Blog is no longer updated. The author is deceased.

Erwin, FontCreator’s author, usually updates its databases to the latest version 17.0 of the Unicode standard. Perhaps that has not been done yet?

Thank you, I am aware of that sad news. I had worked with Andrew since 2020, and recently obtained a copy of the fcp file of the BabelStone Han font from his family. I planned to publish a commemorative version of BabelStone Han, a complete set of his CJK font work.

We plan to update the Unicode database within the next couple of months.

We have just released FontCreator 16 coming with a lot of improvements and enhancements, including updated Unicode data.

Thank you, I have upgraded to FC 16 and can confirm that the Unicode data is now updated to 17. I am still trying to figure out how to use background layers and helper layers, any tutorials are definitely welcome.

We will soon add new totorials that explain the new features.

Note: there was an issue with helper layers in the initial release, so make sure you have version 16.0.0.3061.

Thank you for the heads up. Just checked update again and still in 3061. As an issue reporter, it is my job to update to the latest version.
