I am so excited to be almost through my first font.
I have one question though. When I go to the test font page some of the letters are duplicated above the row of letters I have created and there are also a couple of black boxes down below. Is this something I have done and will it affect my font.
I hope I have explained this clearly. Thanks so much for any help you can give.
The black boxes are undefined glyphs. If you haven’t yet drawn glyphs (letters) for curly quotes for example, you will see black boxes. You will see the same black boxes in Word if you install your font and try to type those missing characters.
See the recommended glyphs in the manual.
The following two threads provide more information on the matter of the curly quotes.

The black box to which you refer is the .notdef glyph, which is the glyph in the first column of the first row when a new font is started using Font Creator 5.0. The black box is supplied as a default design by the Font Creator 5.0 system. The design for the .notdef glyph within a font can be changed. I use various designs in fonts, though in fairness I mention that many references advise against using non-recommended designs.
I hope that this helps.

Thanks for those. I have a lot to learn about the symbols.
Edited to remove another question. i found the answer right in front of my eyes.
Thanks again.
Black Box? For undefined, I have a white box within a black box that I thought was standard.
Perhaps your inner box needs to have the contour reversed?
Go to the FIRST edit box and press the Fill/NoFill button and see if there is another contour there.
You can use Q and W to move from contour to contour.
I’ve wondered if placing words in the space wouldn’t be better for Newbies. Something like:
“This character is still waiting for your creative touch.”
